Pine Siskins have arrived!

Our favorite finches from up north, Pine Siskins are showing up at finch feeders filled with nyjer seed all over the Cincinnati tri-state. We had at least 4 this morning, in our Batavia, Ohio backyard, mixed in the goldfinches. Look for their pointed bills, streaking on the breast and the yellow wing stripe. Siskins have a beautiful high-pitched trill and our a welcomed visior to the backyards this time of year. Many continue on south this time of year but we always try to bribe a few to over winter in our backyard with feeders filled with fresh nyjer(thistle) seed. Finch flocks can empty your feeders weekly (if not daily), it is important to fill them often to keep those birds coming back daily for a reliable food source.
